WAT PHRA SINGH - CHIANG RAI

The famous Phra Phuttha (Buddha) Singh image housed here is believed to be built in 157 A.D. in Sri Lanka or Ceylon and was brought to Thailand in the Sukhothai period (1238-1438)

A replica of the Phra Singh Budhha, a highly revered Theravada Buddhist image can be found in the main chapel. The original image was moved to Chiang Mai's Wat Phra Singh.

There are two entrance gates to the Wat ..

Wat Phra Singh  features  Lanna Thai architecture.

During my visits, there was a ceremony on going. At first I thought the kids are girls but they are actually young boys who had just finished their monk hood.
Near the Wat is the city's train library. Too bad it was closed at that time I would love to check inside.
