THE DUSIT PALACE

The Dusit Palace, sometimes called New Royal City, Dusit Park, Dusit Garden or just Dusit, is a European-inspired complex of palaces and royal residences. It was built during the reign of King Rama V, the first Thai monarch to visit Europe. Impressed by the European royal parks and residences , he started building the royal compound within walking distance of the Grand Palace. Unlike The Grand Palace, the Dusit palace's courts were organized differently and were separated by canals and gardens as opposed to walls.

King Rama V Equestrian Monument  completed on 1908 was built at the Royal Plaza just in front of the Ananta Hall. The funds used to built the monument were raised from public donations as an expression of the Thais' love and gratitude to the King for his reforms in modernizing the kingdom.
The monument is deeply revered by Thais who can be seen at all times of the day at the monument praying and paying homage to the great King.
